Independent. Newcastle. Grainfed.

Grainfed Brewing Company was founded in Newcastle in 2012 by brewer Lachlan MacBean.

But the story started well before Grainfed. Lachlan studied brewing before joining Bluetongue Brewery in 2004, where he worked until 2010. It was there that he developed the brewing knowledge, quality systems, processes and production experience that would eventually shape Grainfed.

He went on to become an international beer judge and, after seeing an opportunity for an independent Newcastle beer brand, established Grainfed Brewing Company.

For the next decade Grainfed grew its reputation one beer, keg, venue and customer at a time. Then came the opportunity to build a permanent home.

In Lambton, Newcastle, Grainfed finally had somewhere to brew its beer and serve it directly to the people drinking it.

The Grainfed Shed opened in 2023 at 1/52 Young Road, Lambton.

Lachlan didn’t want somewhere simply designed to manufacture beer. He wanted a neighbourhood brewery where people could meet, talk, laugh, listen to music, bring their families and become part of a community. 

That’s still what Grainfed is about today.

The Beer Comes First. Trends change. Good brewing doesn’t.Our approach is to produce high-quality, well-balanced and genuinely drinkable beer. Some are traditional. Some are experimental. Some are seasonal. But every Grainfed beer starts with the same expectation: it has to be a beer we’re proud to put our name on.

And when you visit us in Lambton, you’re drinking Grainfed beer at the place it was brewed.

Grainfed remains proudly independent and Newcastle based.

We’re a small business. You’ll often meet the people who brewed the beer, own the business or helped create the place you’re sitting in.
